Bad kidneys

I learnt today about the relationship between the kidneys and blood pressure. Kidneys help regulate blood pressure, and high blood pressure damages the kidneys. This was brought up as I have had an actual kidney infection (the first since I was a child). This is unusual as I typically get UTIs but not kidney infections. For the first time in a long time my blood pressure was read and was incredibly high (I'm normally normal). I have been given an ultimatum, either get the BP down with lifestyle changes (more exercise, less stress, etc) and lose some weight, or go on medication. I guess the several months of high stress and pain has taken it's toll, raising my BP and in turn infecting the already half dead kidneys. The kidney specialist will be quite disappointed with me :-\
