The Codebook, by Simon Singh

It was rather amusing that the first few chapters matched my cryptography honours course nearly exactly (omitting the maths)! A very well written book, detailing the sometimes sordid history of cryptology. An interesting look at quantum cryptography in the last chapter, and a large appendix for someone wishing to try out their code-breaking skills. Highly recommended for anyone studying or interested in cryptography. Amazon listing and reviews
